Here is a positive update showing the response one of the campaign’s supporters encountered when she shared details of the Church Commissioners’ revision of their policy on arms investment. We hope it will serve as inspiration and encouragement to spread the news within your church communities about what is happening. Many people are simply unaware that their church invests in the arms trade at all and will be very concerned that this is being done in their name.

Jacqueline Durban, St Martin’s Church, Elham Deanery, Kent wrote to us and said:

“Having learned of the Church Commissioners decision to change their criteria in regard to investment in defence companies, I raised the issue with my Parochial Church Council (PCC). Their reaction was immediate and visceral. Their shock that the Church of England allows any money to be invested in arms was palpable and they were outraged that the, already permissive, criteria was being changed. They did not consider this to be consistent with Christian principles and agreed that we will write a letter to our Deanery Synod. I have now raised this as a matter at the next Deanery meeting in May.”
