Refusing to Kill: Bristol’s WWI Conscientious Objectors

Less than 100 years ago, Christians by the thousand were being arrested in Britain because of their faith. They – including members of the Church of England – believed it was wrong for them, as Christians, to fight in the First World War. Many were imprisoned. Some wrote on their prison cell walls the words of verses, from scripture or hymns, that inspired them.

The Revd. Dr. Clive Barrett belongs to the Anglican Pacifist Fellowship; he also chairs the Peace Museum, in Bradford, Yorkshire. Clive shows how these stories of courage, faith and resistance can inspire us to stand for peace today.
